In Philadelphia, at Kepler, Van Horne Insurance, Co., David Wolfe needs a fiancée to obtain a promotion to partner at the family run firm. However, he has none and the myriad of women he dates or has dated would never do. He needs someone fresh.
Chef Chelsea Hammond, a friend of David’s sister, needs a temporary place to crash to save expenses while starting a catering business. Though she is reluctant and hides her reason for doubt, they agree that she stays in his place in exchange she will pose as his fiancée with her added stipulation of “no contact”. However, they end up making love and she falls in love with her faked fiancé, but he admits he is commitment-phobic.
Although the premise of a fake fiancée or “Occasional Wife” has been used a zillion times, Nancy Warren magically makes it fresh with a strong cast especially the support players like his sister and his co-workers who bring out the best and worst in the lead couple. Fans will relish this wonderful contemporary romance as the slow learner realizes why he reaches in his bed for a female phantom who never slept through the night there and the woman who wisely knows why.

I bought this book as part of a bundle, so the price was better. I have to say the story was cute. I’ve read many stories where people make up boyfriends, fiance’s etc, but this one stayed with me.
David lied to his boss telling him he was engaged. He did this because he wanted his bosses to consider him for a VP position. Only problem was, there was no such fiancee and he needed to produce one pronto! He asks his sister for help and his sister has the perfect candidate for him, her best friend from highschool Chelsea. Chelsea just got back from Paris where she became a cook. She wants to start her own business catering but does not have a place to stay or a big kitchen to get started. She reluctantly accepts the offer of pretending to be the fiancee. When David and Chelsea meet for the first time, David is taken back at how beautiful his sister’s friend had turned to and she thought David looked just as handsome as he did 15 years ago. They go through their agreement pretending and playing house. They cannot help but feel attracted to each other and realize acting on their attraction is a complication neither of them can afford.
There is also another secondary love story within the story that was great. David was a nice guy, but he was had his flaws. Chelsea was a very likeable character. It was nice to see how they both overcame their issues to fight for their happily ever after. Fast and easy read!
